WHAT ALL THE SYMBOLS ON YOUR CAR'S DASHBOARD MEAN

Check Engine Light

The symbol of a small engine comes on when the Onboard Diagnostics - Second-Generation (OBD II) computer system discovers a problem with the emission control system, fuel, or ignition. The issue may be as simple as a loose cap for the fuel filler that only requires tightening. It may also indicate a more serious issue that, if left on attended, could seriously damage your engine.

The only way to find out what's going on is to take your vehicle into our service department where our factory-trained technicians can interpret the code produced by the OBD II.

Oil Pressure Light

The symbol of an old-fashioned oil can light up when your car has low oil pressure due to dirty oil, an oil leak, or not enough oil. Check under your vehicle after parking it. If it shows drops of oil, then you have a leak. You should also check the dipstick as indicated in your owner's manual to ensure that you have enough oil.

Tire Pressure Monitor System Light

The symbol of an exclamation point inside a cross-section of a tire, which is also known as TPMS, illuminates if one or more of your tires does not have enough pressure. Fill your tires to the level recommended either by your owner's manual or a plate attached to the driver's side door. If the light remains on after you put in more oil, then you have a problem with the TPMS sensor, which needs to be looked at by our technicians.

Engine Coolant Temperature Warning

Appearing as a thermometer on top of some waves, this light comes on when you start your engine to indicate that it is working. It should then go off. If you have no problems. If the light stays on while you're driving, then your engine is overheating because of a problem with the cooling system. Pull over as soon as possible and turned the engine off to prevent further damage. You'll need to be towed to a service center.

Braking System Warning

The symbol of an exclamation point inside a circle comes on is the Brake System Warning. If the circle has the letters ABS instead of an exclamation point, then it is an Antilock Brake System Warning. In either case, the system that allows you to stop your vehicle has a problem. Do not risk your brakes failing when you're using them on the highway. Take your vehicle in right away to have the system inspected.

Traction Control System / Stabilitrak® Warning

This symbol shows the outline of a car on some skid marks and represents the warning for the Traction Control System/Stabilitrak. The system is not going to limit wheelspin, so you need to modify your driving accordingly, and inform. the technicians of the issue at your next maintenance visit.

Seat Belt Reminder

This symbol of a person with a seat belt comes on with a chime to remind you and your front passenger to buckle your seat belts.

Adaptive Cruise Control Indicator

Looking like a car next to a speedometer, this light indicates that Adaptive Cruise Control is functioning. Your vehicle will keep a safe distance to the next car by automatically adjusting your speed up to the limit that you set.

Lane Departure Warning

Showing a top view of the car straying across highway lanes, this light turns green to show that the driver assist is working. It turns yellow and flashes when your vehicle starts drifting across the lanes without your activating a turn signal.
